How We Came to be

What About The Starfish?

We founded Asterise with the mission of putting Talent in Talent Acquisition, you might think this is a platitude but sadly it is uncommon as most search and recruitment agencies.

When looking for inspiration on how to better convey our way of working we came across starfish and something about them just seemed to reflect deep aspects of our philosophy.

So we did some further research on starfish and learnt that we weren’t the first ones in noticing some interesting characteristics in these lovely creatures that can teach us a thing or two on how to run businesses in modern times.

One of this existing comparatives studies on starfish and business management was the magnificent work of Mr Ori Brafman and Mr Rod Beckstrom, The Starfish and The Spider where they set out to explore the multiple survival mechanism of starfish as opposed to that of the central-brain spider.

Starfish is one of the most primitive creatures known to man, it has been able to survive in extremely harsh enviroments, the deep seas, thanks to it’s capacity of regenerating its body part continuously and its decentralised nervous system.

Starfish are virtually eternal in their mission to survive. You can cut off a starfish limb and brand new one will appear in a few days and a new starfish will evolve off the cut piece.

We, at Asterise, think of ourselves as a starfish organisation because talent is the most scarce resource in the business world. Finding the right talent requires sheer determination and the ability to reinvent ourselves in the process as many times as necessary.

Each member of our team has been chosen for their ability to withstand the frustration that comes with navigating the current world looking for talented professionals.

We as starfish professionals never give up in our purpose and are constantly scanning the bottom of the oceans looking for the best and brightest people who would ultimately change the world.

Spotting these natural skills can be the key to finding the right fit. Look for moments when candidates seem most at ease and energized.

For example, some people are in their element at trade fairs, happily networking all day, while others get completely absorbed in designing social media content. These inclinations often show where they can excel without feeling drained.
